Urban Planner II at AECOM
In June of 2021, Ms. Esco accepted a job as a Urban Planner II with AECOM. During this, she has primarily supported the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) at their headquarters in Washington, D.C. As a Planner II at AECOM, she provides technical assistance to FEMA’s grant programs. She conducts extensive policy research and development; her research focuses on hazard mitigation, risk reduction, resiliency initiatives and other related activities.
Day to tasks include:
Ms. Esco also provided assistance with developing and writing the flooding section of the 2022 Louisville Metro Hazard Mitigation, which included detailed analysis of the hazard, assessment of the vulnerability and the risk associated with flooding. The plan was successfully adopted approved by FEMA and by local governments in the Louisville Metro area in 2022.
In the Spring of 2023, Ms. Esco was selected to be a Social Value Champion with AECOM. Her role is helping AECOM develop a Social Value Strategy for the US.
Day to tasks include:
- Conducted research and prepared reports on hazard mitigation, risk reduction, nature based solutions,and land use, as well as collected and analyzed data for social and economic issues.
- Provided planning assistance to client on varied mitigation, resiliency, risk reduction, environmental, land use and grants implementation projects.
- Generated plans, studies and analyses on mitigation policies and initiatives.
- Assisted client with creation and annual update process of externally facing programmatic documents.
- Conducted meetings and presented reports and other findings to staff with advisory boards and officials
